Group chat is powered by our API 'Groupcentric,' which enables us to quickly set up rich group chat and content sharing. With Groupcentric anyone with a cell phone can get updates about the bar hop, and any user using an app that has Groupcentric built in will be able to view the rich bar hop directly within their chat.
Using Foursquare allows our users to access the most complete database of the bars in their area. Users can either select and manage their own Bar Hop, or can choose to "surprise" them, in which we randomly select a handful of bars in their area.
Content sharing is limited by what we like to refer to as “Sharing 1.0” mechanisms. There are millions of apps across the mobile platforms that have terrific, rich content, and no way to share it outside of large scale Facebook and Twitter blasts or email; even with these options users must leave the app to share, a solution that is neither optimal for the user or the developer. We created Groupcentric as the first Sharing 2.0 mechanism, allowing users to privately share rich objects beyond simple multimedia, with groups that allow users to share not only across platforms, but between apps. With this vision in mind we created Groupcentric as a plug and play Application Programming Interface (API) for both Android and iOS, the first simple and robust private group chat API and platform, allowing developers to add private sharing and group chat into their apps in minutes.
